It all started with an idea at Block in 2013. Initially built to take the pain out of peer-to-peer payments, Cash App has gone from a simple product with a single purpose to a dynamic ecosystem, developing unique financial products, including Afterpay/Clearpay, to provide a better way to send, spend, invest, borrow and save to our 50+ million monthly active customers. We want to redefine the world’s relationship with money to make it more relatable, instantly available, and universally accessible. Today, Cash App has thousands of employees working globally across office and remote locations, with a culture geared toward innovation, collaboration and impact. We’ve been a distributed team since day one, and many of our roles can be done remotely from the countries where Cash App operates. No matter the location, we tailor our experience to ensure our employees are creative, productive, and happy.

The Role

The Customer Onboarding team, part of Block's Financial Crimes organization, protects Block's ecosystem through the protocols that govern secure customer onboarding, ongoing monitoring and EDD, and compliant account restoration. As an enterprise role, the KYC Due Diligence Policy and Strategy Manager sets KYC policy and strategy for Block, Inc. as a whole — spanning Square, Cash App, TIDAL, and other business lines — combining policy expertise with practical implementation to strengthen KYC processes, with particular emphasis on identity verification and EDD.

You Will

Lead the development, review, and maintenance of enterprise KYC policies, standards, supplementary guidance, and exception requests

Monitor regulatory change, assess impact on existing KYC frameworks, and keep global standards aligned with local requirements

Partner with cross-functional teams to implement KYC requirements, and advise compliance technology teams on the policy requirements shaping KYC solutions

Define policy requirements, guardrails, and validation criteria for AI/ML-driven risk-based segmentation and identity verification — and advise where automation is and isn't appropriate for KYC decisioning

Monitor KYC metrics and program performance to assess effectiveness, enhance controls, and identify process improvements

Serve as subject matter expert to business units and to legal, audit, and risk partners; participate in governance forums and support regulatory examinations and internal audits

Identify, escalate, and help remediate KYC compliance risks, including those specific to AI/automation such as model drift, bias, false positives/negatives, and explainability gaps

You Have

10+ years in BSA/AML/KYC compliance or compliance operations at a financial services firm, preferably payments or fintech

A track record of influencing enterprise-wide compliance programs and advising executive leadership on complex regulatory matters

Strong knowledge of compliance regulations, risks, and typologies, paired with an analytical, metrics-driven approach to building substantiated solutions

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the organizational skills to manage competing priorities in an agile, fast-paced environment

The ability to execute independently and at a high level while working effectively with team members at all levels

Demonstrated AI fluency: framing ambiguous compliance problems for AI, critically evaluating outputs for gaps, bias, or risk, and using AI to accelerate execution without compromising quality or compliance standards

Preferred: experience engaging federal or international banking regulators, relevant certifications (CAMS, CFE, CFCS, CRCM), and exposure to AI/ML-driven compliance or risk-decisioning tools
